How to find Damson Ghyll (circled above with
Solway Firth and Criffel in Scotland
behind)
By
road:
Leave
the M6 at Penrith (Junction 40) and follow the A66 towards Workington. The
quickest way is over Whinlatter
Pass by taking the left
turn off the A66 at Braithwaite just after Keswick onto the B5292 and follow
the road through High Lorton to Low Lorton. With the loss of the River Cocker
bridge at Low Lorton, you now have to follow the signs up the main valley
road (B5289) to Buttermere and Loweswater. Ignore the Buttermere left turn and,
after about a further mile, turn immediately right just after the Scalehill
bridge over the Cocker. After ½ mile, turn right at the T-junction and follow
the lane towards Thackthwaite and you will come to Latterhead after another ½
mile. Damson Ghyll is the second house on your right, opposite Latterhead
Farmhouse on the left.
